Pastor Phillip Brantley, Senior Pastor

MY STORY

I was fortunate to have been raised in a Christian home by loving parents along with 7 siblings. Regrettably I rebelled against God and my parents during my teenage years and did not receive Christ as my personal Savior until I was 29 years old. After my conversion, I got involved in a local church and took my first class at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) in 1989 never dreaming that I would become a pastor!
In 1991 I felt God calling me into fulltime ministry. After much prayer my wife and I submitted to God’s call. I sold my business and became a fulltime student at SEBTS. I graduated in 1994 and became the Senior Pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in August 1994.
I believe the local church is to be the hub for both local and foreign missions involvement and have lead our congregation to be very active in fulfilling the Great Commission found in Acts 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

MY FAMILY

My wife, Peggy and I have been married since 1979. We have 2 married sons and 2 beautiful grandchildren.

EDUCATION

Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies – Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (2005)
Associate of Divinity – Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (1994)

HOBBIES AND PASSIONS

I like to consider myself a handyman of sorts, though my wife has questioned this on several occasions threatening to call a professional! For relaxation, I enjoy spending time with my family; an occasional round of golf with friends, surf fishing at the beach, and watching college basketball with my wife. [Go Duke]
